Reviews

A good tool with some usefull featuresweissvulf2012-06-15-

This review is for v0.98.0 beta of jPSXdec which is available on the authors site.

I was quite impressed with jPSXdec conversion quality. I had been using PSmplay but jPSXdec had better color accuracy. The command line version also has an extremely useful STR encoding ability whose features are geared specifically toward translating.

It can import individual video frames while leaving untouched any frames that don't need translating and the sound stream. This can drastically reduce your translation's patch size while also keeping the video at maximum quality.

It also has the ability to replace a designated area in each frame leaving the rest untouched- useful for adding subtitle boxes without re-encoding the whole video frame.

Bottom line, editing Playstation video successfully is a pretty hard thing to pull off and there were few tools available to help. jPSXdec is a huge step in the right direction and definitely worth a look.
