Release date : September 1989

Game description

Back to the Future is an action game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game is based on a movie with the same title. This game is infamous for its poor design. The game is divided into walking stages and minigames.

In the walking stages, the player controls Marty McFly who is constantly walking through the town of Hill Valley. The game feels like a shoot 'em up without the shooting as the only thing the player can do is avoid enemies and obstacles. At the bottom of the screen, the photograph of Marty and his siblings is slowly fading away. In order to prevent the photograph from disappearing, the player must collect clocks. If the photograph disappears completely, Marty dies instantly. At some point, Marty will find a bowling ball and will be able to throw bowling balls at the citizens of the town. Occasionally, a skateboard may be collected that makes Marty move faster and bowling pins to appear in the streets.

There are four minigames that appear at each major location in Hill Valley. At the café, Marty must defend himself from bullies with milkshakes. In the school, Marty must block kisses from his teenage mother. At the dance, Marty must play Johnny B. Goode. And, in the finale, Marty must drive the DeLorean 88 mph as he reaches the end of the level.

The game also features one constantly repeating song which is a very poor rendition of Power of Love.
